Taille des projets

This project is a pioneering effort to integrate solar power with battery storage to address the seasonal energy shortfall in Sierra Leone. The dry season (December to April) significantly reduces the output of the Bumbuna I hydro plant, creating a need for reliable power. This pilot project will demonstrate the viability of a solar-plus-storage solution and stabilize the electricity grid. The facility will generate and store solar energy during the day, which will then be dispatched to cover peak demand after sunset and provide essential system stability services. These services are crucial for Sierra Leone's participation in the regional CLSG transmission line. The project is part of a 12-site program, and the successful partner will be invited to bid on the remaining sites

Résumé rapide

The Government of Sierra Leone seeks a private partner for a 20 MW solar and 10 MW battery storage pilot project. This initiative aims to enhance grid reliability during the dry season by complementing hydro power. It is the first of a planned 12-site programme and presents a key opportunity in West Africa's clean energy transition

Rapport d'analyse de marché

Sierra Leone faces a critical energy shortfall during the dry season due to reduced hydroelectric output. This pilot project is designed to provide reliable power to underserved areas and enhance grid stability. The project aligns with the Sierra Leone Energy Policy 2016, aiming to increase the share of solar PV energy to 20% by 2035.
